Parapsychology Research Can Learn From Skeptics, Says Dr. Steven Novella

In-depth interview with Yale School of Medicine Neurologist, and host of Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe, Dr. Steven Novella, explores the kind of research needed to generate definitive answers about paranormal effects.

Del Mar, CA, May 22, 2007 – Join host Alex Tsakiris when he interviews neurologist and noted skeptic, Dr. Stephen Novella about research within the most controversial areas of science and how collaboration between skeptics and researchers may pave the way for more conclusive findings.

During the 45-minute interview Dr. Novella explains what kind of research is needed to break the stalemate between skeptics and parapsychology researchers: “… in the end we have the same goal, even though we have difference approaches and different interpretations… the goal is to design research in such a way that it doesn’t matter what you believe… the results will be valid despite the beliefs of the researcher.  When you can design studies like that, then you can trust the results…”

He also threw his support behind the efforts of OpenSourceScience (www.opensourcescience.net) to fund more research: “It’s just as frustrating to me when experts disagree on how to interpret the evidence… I’d love to have unequivocal, absolutely definitive evidence – let’s get it.”

Dr. Novella is an academic neurologist at Yale University School of Medicine. He is the co-founder and President of the New England Skeptical Society, Associate Editor of the Scientific Review of Alternative Medicine, and host of The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe, a weekly podcast discussing paranormal topics, pseudoscience, and skepticism.
